Common Birds 34 - American Redstart III
Thursday, June 1
Today is exactly the peaceful, unremarkable, even forgettable day I wanted to celebrate on Tuesday. The fever of spring migration is passing. The newcomers, grosbeaks and orioles, are settled in. The mother American redstart is faithful to her nest. Myriad fish nip the underside of the water, rippling the surface like rain. The busy world is hushed. Everything is beautiful, and nothing is new, so peace flows through like a river, washing away my jaggedness.
Ah, how wonderful the way a redstart can overthrow my grandest plans.
